TIDBITS

Faces of Downtown

Jim Tienken

Local attorney Jim Tienken is frequently seen downtown, shopping at local retailers or patronizing downtown restaurants. His law practice spans nearly forty years, over 25 of those in Downtown Louisville. He is an owner of his office building at 824 Pine Street, one door west of Moxie Bread. Jim was a board member of Louisville’s Downtown Business Association for many years, and was President for several. As a part of the DBA, he was an early promoter and organizer of the Street Faire and was very active in its production.

Jim and his wife Kelly raised their four children in Louisville’s wonderful schools, and their children all worked in local downtown restaurants. Jim continues to be an active participant in local business groups, and regularly appears before City Council and other boards and commissions on behalf of his clients, or in support of local and regional issues.

When not working, you will find Jim riding his bike on local trails and roads, spending time with his wife and family, enjoying fine tequila, or fishing. In his legal practice, Jim will be happy to assist you with your real estate or business needs. Jim looks forward to seeing you all Downtown!

Historic Preservation Building

This month in conjunction with the Historic Preservation Commission, we are featuring:

The Old Louisville Hospital
721 Grant St.

The house at 721 Grant is important to Louisville history for a number of reasons: it is one of the many buildings that historically were relocated from one site to another in the Louisville area, and it had an earlier life as a Main Street business and the Louisville Post Office. It was reportedly the location of Louisville’s newspaper office, it was used as a hospital operated by the United Mine Workers for area miners, and it is believed to have been used for elementary school classes prior to becoming a private residence. The house was recently converted to a playful house for the children of the Dickinson family. And their pets and parents enjoy it also.

April and Doing Our Best

These are certainly unprecedented times, but it’s been amazing to watch our downtown community come together and support each other at this challenging time. So many businesses have become creative and are adapting to the changes of everyday life, and the Louisville community has been there to support and cheer them on! Way to go Louisville, we are in this together and we will make it through together.

Louisville Street Faire

Under normal circumstances this would be the Street Faire issue of our newsletter. However, due to the uncertainties arising from COVID-19, at this time we are delaying the announcement of the 2020 Street Faire band schedule until May 1st.

Of course, no one has a crystal ball to say for sure how and when the COVID-19 outbreak will dissipate. We can’t know for sure whether we will be able, or allowed, to hold the Faire, or whether or not we will be able to hold to the current schedule. There will be questions going forward as to whether a particular band will still be available, but we want to encourage hope in our community, knowing that we are all fighting this virus together and that we are all in this together. We sincerely hope that good news will begin to overtake the uncertainty and that life can return to normal sooner rather than later. Stay well, stay safe, and hopefully we can rock it out downtown come June.

Art Walk Message

Dear Art Lovers and Business Owners,

It is vitally important for all of us to take the necessary precautions to practice social distancing during this critical phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. All members of the Louisville Arts District (LAD) are committed to observing the explicit recommendations of the CDC, state and City of Louisville public health officials and thus, we have cancelled the upcoming April Art Walk. We will provide you with additional updates regarding the May and future Art Walks. Hopefully we can enjoy gathering with our friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and associates. Be a part of recovery, vitality, hope and healing.
