The 900 block of Louisville is a happening place this spring. A creative collective, Luminary, located at 924 Main Street (next to the Bronze Elk), opened its doors to the public on April 1, 2009. A wonderful addition to our eclectic downtown, the emporium will showcase the work of local artisans.

Co-owned by Jude Bea, Katie Wells, Lori Sieren and Kara Priest, Luminary will feature a quality selection of jewelry, art, and clothing. You can also find flowers for the dinner table, a toy for the little one, or maybe indulge in something sweet with a truffle or two.

In 1984, a little bakery opened at 820 Main Street and quickly became a popular place to share a cup of coffee with friends, have a business meeting, get the kids a donut before school, or just have some “me time” with a good book and a hot drink. Now, 25 years later, the bakery is still a wonderful place to be from 6am to 2pm. Owners Kathy Rosser and Susan Bright, who have operated the Bakery since 2007, enjoy being a vital part of the Louisville community. The Marketplace also has a wholesale component, supplying baked goods to several local restaurants.

The City of Louisville, the DBA, and businesses have worked out arrangements to install temporary platforms in the 800 block of Main Street. Starting June 1st and running through August, restaurants in this block will be sharing the space created by the platforms, which will be in the parking places adjacent to the sidewalks. The platforms will provide outdoor seating for approximately 32 people. If this summer’s trial is successful, the program may be expanded in 2010.

Spring is here, summer is coming, and so is the 2nd Annual Louisville Farmers Market. Andy and Kelly Williams are excited for the second year of the popular gathering, located on Front Street in Historic Downtown. Opening day is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, from 9 am to 2 pm, and will run each Saturday though October. Local farmers will be there along with a variety of other local vendors.

Opening day 2009 coincides with the Taste of Louisville. The Farmers Market and the Taste begin a new tradition in 2009 - Louispalloza - a free celebration at the Steinbaugh Pavilion featuring several local bands. The month of June not only brings the sweet smell of flowers blooming and the warm late spring breeze, it also means the return of the popular Louisville Downtown Street Faire. The schedule will be out in late April - early May. Expect some new faces and some old favorites. The fun begins on Friday, June 12, 2009.
